Jen: Update! Welcome 2007

It's been almost a year since we've "come back." That word is bittersweet because AK never once left our thoughts. Even if we wanted it to… our friends didn't let it! Sometimes true friends believe in you more than you believe in yourself.

Well, things are more significant than we could have imagined at this point. Lots of shit can happen over a year.. Realizations give way to new paths and you hope you make the right decisions. Our 4 personalities are VERY different. Any of you that know each of us and have gotten to know Erk can see that. When it comes to the band, it works because our vision is surprisingly the same for four people so different. We've learned compromise and what we feel is right and wrong for AK and how to stand up for that. We finally learned how to make it work without taking advantage of each other (although slips happen, right Frank?! HAHA I bet that made his nostrils flare.). We've learned how to not let each other down and to give this band it's rightful place in our lives. Most importantly, we've learned to appreciate, yet not rush the artistic and creative side of this animal. Now, here's the best part… what we have the least control over.. we're finally a powerhouse. Strong… with four people that artistically feed off and challenge one another to create something none of us have ever experienced, but it feels like it was born straight out of our gut. Surprisingly, that's what we're still trying to accept. We've been hoping and striving for this window of opportunity since 1998 and it falls into our lap nine years later.

Blah, blah, blah… No, I'm not high. It's been a year since we've been playing again and we're THANKFUL for the way things have played out and we've come to where we're at. WE'RE NOT THERE YET. We've spent a year getting the rust off, and dedicating ourselves to properly documenting songs spanning the last five years to disc to the absolute best of our ability (we last recorded in 2001). This is a pretty steady topic of discussion among all of us and I felt it was important to share it with those of you following our progress. It's exciting (and scary) to finally have all the right tools and ability to present your passion the way you've always intended it to be.

The benefit show for Eric last month was killer. Besides the fact we won the rockstar ending competition against Deadpool with a bit of slammin' Pantera (MAN, you guys have been quiet!!), we raised $423.00 towards his tombstone at the show. We sincerely thank Deadpool, Master So High, and last, but absolutely not least, Darkwater, because they made it all happen. We really do appreciate you guys playing and putting on an intense show in the name of Eric!!! We said we'd be stopping the contributions in Jan, but we're keeping it going a bit longer to see if we can get him something pretty nice.. with his picture and a microphone engraved on it. We've gone so far with it.. why not. We're at almost $700, but if I count the money people have for me that hasn't been given yet, its closer to nine.

K3n Adams is still working on our next design. He was so super swamped with deadlines for the end of year, that we agreed to put it off until now. He has sent me sketches and we're corresponding on a consistent basis. Coming soon!

I've had a few inquiries about the CD progress as well. We are still in the recording phase. Dave has a couple more vocal sessions (one to record "Once in a Lifetime" and one for cleanup and little pieces here and there). Erk has laid down pieces on four songs. We'll be moving at his pace for a bit. I've never done it, but I'd imagine it's not easy to walk into a band, have to learn 10 songs in a couple of weeks to pull off a live performances, then have 13 songs handed to you and have to write solos and layers for 'em all. We gave suggestions to him here and there based on mood and feel, but ultimately it's all on him to move himself into the preexisting music. We've had 19 sessions since June and there hasn't been a month that we haven't been in there.

Hope to see you all tomorrow at the Redrum. Best wishes for everyone in 2007.

Jen: AK enters the Gas Chamber

Sorry for the lack of updates! We have plenty of news for you all. Let's start with some shit that's gonna blow your mind...

Past and present, AK have always prided ourselves in finding the most talented artists to lend their talents to our music. No doubt you've noticed the killer artwork in the background. It's from none other than k3n adams. K3n's distinctive work can be seen on skateboards, record label logos and all over throughout different industries. Most notably, K3n is the artist responsible for the artwork on all three Lamb of God albums and the trademark designs on all their merchandise. We are pleased to announce that k3n is working on a brand new AK design. That's right! The design will find it's way onto t-shirts as soon as it is completed. Stay tuned to see what his mind brings to Angerkill. You can visit his website and see his works at www.k3n.com.

Thanks to everyone who has donated to Eric's cause. We had hoped we would be a bit further along at this point, but you can NEVER complain when people are coming together for something like this. Our current total raised is $269.50. We will be having a benefit show (it's looking like December 8th) to raise more money for Eric's tombstone. For those that didn't know him.. Eric was a badass friend. He was someone who was easy to talk to and he had a sincere passion for his son, Xavier, and music. He was a HUGE Rage & Tool fanatic, but was open-minded and jammed to everything from Björk to Messhugah. He once broke his front tooth in our kitchen opening a Dos Equis. Dave dubbed him "Sweet Nips." (as part of Dave's lame-o posse. By the way, I am Jen... "chick on the side" a.k.a. "Cobra"). He was a cool dude to have around.. We spent many hours just sitting at the table, smokin and drawing, or just talking about music, movies or WHATEVER - there was never a shortage of things to talk about (of course, when one is high out of their minds, this happens). When we spoke, like all our close friends, we spoke from the heart. He had a KILLER voice - he wrote all the time and even performed with us here at the Rabbit and in Austin. He's not some guy that died that we're raising money for.. he was a friend and it pains us that it's almost been five years, and he still has that metal plate on his gravesite. If we had the money, we'd buy him a tombstone out of pocket.. but we obligations to our children, our households and this band, so here we are. He WILL have something though... if you have close friends, I'm sure you can understand where this is coming from. In many ways, this CD is bringing closure to this time period from this tragedy until now. We're all ready to move forward as a band. We'll NEVER forget them, but Dave, Frank and I are done being stuck. We're not just trying to raise this money for Eric, but we're doing this for ourselves and our friends still here. We've heard from so many of our buddies that they don't go to his site because it saddens them to see nothing there. Well, fuck that - no more.

On a lighter note, Dave goes in this upcoming week and the next week to get some more vocals done. We're hoping for three more dates in November but we're waiting to hear back from producer Monster Keith on that. After vocals are done, Erk goes in to lay down his shit. He's been writing some great stuff. Man.. I can rave all day about it, but you guys are just going to have to wait and hear his work for yourselves. Anyone who was at the Bonds show a couple of weeks ago knows what to expect!

This past week, we had a great practice. We started up again last week and had a pretty rusty practice with a record of 13 people show up to check it out. Man.. "sorry guys". We weren't sounding so hot, but that's what practice is for.. so this week, we jammed a couple of times again and by Wednesday, we were full force. Erk spit out some riffs and we actually started a new jam...WOW.. it was feeling nice too! But - "not yet....." and Erk got us back on the task at hand so it was put on the backburner. Keeping everyone focused in practice has been my role in this band for years so I am fucking thrilled to have someone helping me out there. When in practice, our soundguy Victor is also great at keeping us focused. I LOVE it. I'm saying it again right now.. ANGERKILL has NEVER been stronger and more united with such potential. Erk is experimental and open-minded WITH great chops! We've met our match, boys and girls. He's learned the set and is now working on integrating himself into the music through his solos and layers. We hear some of you guys out there passed him up prior to him joining AK. Suckas!!!

He also taught us about americanmusical.com. Both a good and bad thing... Dave and I have already started building the gear arsenal. Dave really has to strain in practice to hear himself because the kicks are running through his vocal equipment. We've picked up a brand new QSC power amp and now need a kick monitor so he can have his vocal monitors to himself and he won't be straining for volume. I bought a Samson Airline Bass Wireless -yeah!- so I can practice more than once a week without a babysitter (and it doesn't hurt that my uncoordinated self won't be tripping on my cable on stage). I can now be in the house in the same room as my babies and still get practice in. Eventually we'll get a wireless headphone system to have headphone monitors for me and would like a video feed (we have an extra camera and TV.. just got to figure that shit out), but for now, it's playing along to what I hear blasting through the walls. Currently I get to practice on Wednesdays and on practice days other than that, Dave will jam half the set and I'll go in the second half. From day one, nothing has ever been conventional about this band. Fuck it.. normalcy is in the eye of the critic. How you like dem beans?!

Dave, Jen, Frank: Introducing the newest member of AK!

We are way way pleased to announce the newest part of ANGERKILL - ERK. He's straight outta Florida, we get along great.. and he kicks some fuckin ass! Holy shit... look out for what's ahead. You've never seen AK like THIS.

A big thanks to Jay from Darkwater for having all of our music in mind and helping this come together... and thanks to you guys out there that inquired or came by to jamout. We appreciate the consideration.

We all feel pretty lucky right now.. this happened way sooner than we thought it would.. but believe me, we didn't settle. It seems we were just bestowed some long overdue good luck. Look for him to debut with us soon!!

Jen, Dave, Frank: Attention! We need to find a kickass lead guitarist

As of recent, Jared Hernandez has amicably parted ways with AK. A multitude of reasons contributed to this decision on both ends. Its a sad time for all four of us, but we all know its best for Jared on an individual level and Angerkill as a collective unit. Jared is more to us on a personal level than any other guitarist weve had; we part ways wishing him the best.So today, we move forward. Were stuck in this oh-so-familiar place of needing that fourth piece of Angerkill. This is somewhere we have visited a few times already over the last eight years, but were doing things differently this time. With Jared, we got the closest to where we needed to be to date.. on a musical level and a personal level.. so we just cant settle. AK will remain a three piece, and still play live with or without help (yes, even if it means me finally conceding to doing vocals). BUT this doesnt mean that we arent looking to complete this unit as soon as possible!!! If you know someone whos a good fit, please tell them to inquire within.

Heres the big picture of what were looking for in our new lead guitarist:

A positive attitude: its a MUST that you musically challenge yourself and each of us

Versatility & accuracy in your writing & execution

Great sounding, performance-ready equipment

Anyone interested, please drop us a line and well talk some more.

As always, thanks for your support.
